The Why

The EQUAL CARE Gap

The healthcare landscape shows notable physiological and behavioral gaps between male and female patients, leading to significant disparities in treatment efficacy and outcomes.

Fields of Medicine with High Impact of differences:

  • Neurology
  • Cardiology
  • Oncology
  • Orthopedics
  • Gastroenterology

80%

80% of patients could benefit from sex- and gender-specific approaches in disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. By focusing on sex and gender-specific medicine, we aim to close this gap for faster and more precise healthcare solutions.

Major medical differences between male and female patients:

  • Metabolism
  • Muscle-fat ratio
  • Cardiovascular system
  • Digestive system
  • Immune system
  • Hormones

Despite scientific evidence supporting gender-specific medicine, gaps in awareness and application remain widespread. Our mission is to bring this knowledge to the forefront, bridging these disparities and ensuring gender-inclusive healthcare for all.

How we serve

Provide Transparency on Diagnostics and Treatments as Medication, Digital and AI Applications

Navigating gender-specific data and its implications for treatments can be challenging for both patients and healthcare providers. To promote transparency and trust, EQUAL CARE certifies and labels diagnostics and treatments that integrate a gender-specific approach in their development and patient applications. Our certification establishes a clear and reliable standard, providing patients, doctors, and other healthcare stakeholders with a shared language for communication and a unified foundation for collaboration. Together, we aim to advance healthcare equity and improve outcomes for everyone.

EQUAL CARE Criteria for Medication

At EQUAL CARE, our certification process evaluates medications based on rigorous criteria to ensure gender-specific considerations are embedded in their development and application. Here's how we assess medications:

Study Representation:

  • Criteria: Sufficient gender representation in foundational research, reflecting the prevalence of genders in the population.
  • Requirement: Companies must demonstrate balanced participation of men and women in clinical trials, allowing a deviation of up to 25 percentage points to account for resource and time constraints. This standard will become stricter in the future to ensure even greater precision.

Efficacy / Accuracy:

  • Criteria: Gender-segregated efficacy and accuracy data.
  • Requirement: Companies must provide evidence of how their medication performs separately for men and women, supported by results from clinical trials and other efficacy or accuracy studies.

Posology (Dosage):

  • Criteria: Gender-specific considerations in dosage recommendations.
  • Requirement: Companies must present gender-segregated data on posology, including clinical trial evidence of dosage variations between men and women.

Possible Side Effects:

  • Criteria: Availability of gender-segregated data on side effects.
  • Requirement: Companies must document the types of studies used for market entry approval, detailing methodologies such as clinical trials or observational studies that provide insight into gender-specific safety profiles.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Criteria: Study design and evidence level used for market entry approval.
  • Requirement: Companies must specify the research methodologies and evidence levels that underpin market approval for their medication, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Level of Evidence:

  • Criteria: Appropriateness of evidence for certification and market entry.
  • Requirement: Companies must provide robust evidence supporting the medication's safety, efficacy, and compliance with certification criteria.
