As part of the initial phase, 170 active substances from a range of therapeutic areas were systematically analysed. The dataset includes substances from cardiology, neurology, oncology, metabolic medicine, respiratory medicine, and immunology.
Why an evidence register is needed
Sex- and gender-informed medicine is gaining global relevance, as biological differences between patients can influence the effectiveness, safety, and dosing of medicinal products. Despite this growing awareness, research, clinical practice, and regulatory processes often lack a clearly structured, systematically accessible and comparable representation of the information.
“Sex-relevant information is currently distributed across different sections of various documents, and the wording varies depending on drug class and document type. A unified structure did not exist. This is exactly where we come in,” explains Thao Nguyen, CEO and Founder of EQUAL CARE. “Our newly released, publicly available evidence register creates a technically consistent foundation that allows this information to be identified and compared in a systematic way.”
What the analysis of 170 active substances shows
During the processing of the 170 active substances, different document formats, terminologies, and linguistic patterns were identified. This diversity provided a valuable AI training environment and made it possible to further refine our models for classification, pattern recognition, and semantic structuring, and now to apply this to even larger datasets.
Through the analysis, these clinical studies can for the first time, be transferred into a unified, machine-readable format. The register does not provide clinical evaluation, risk assessment, or treatment recommendations. Instead, it provides the standard data structure and technical infrastructure required to make existing evidence transparent, comparable, and publicly accessible.
Why this topic is particularly urgent now
Although sex-related differences in diagnosis, therapy, and tolerability are described in the scientific literature, this information is often difficult to find in everyday clinical practice or is not systematically prepared. Clinical guidelines currently contain only limited sex-specific information, and relevant data points are distributed across numerous documents.

Many additional active substances will be added to the database in the near future. In the longer term, post-marketing data and other high-quality evidence sources will also be incorporated. In this way, a comprehensive and clinically relevant foundation for sex-sensitive diagnostics and therapy will be created step by step.
Regulatory developments such as the EU AI Act and the European Health Data Space are also increasing the demand for standardised and transparent data structures, EQUAL CARE addresses this gap.

EQUAL CARE, ein daten- und KI-basiertes Health-Tech-Unternehmen, präsentiert das erste Register, das öffentlich verfügbare Arzneimittelinformationen strukturiert und nach geschlechtsrelevanten Aspekten durchsuchbar macht. Im Rahmen der ersten Projektphase wurden 170 Wirkstoffe (INNs) aus unterschiedlichen therapeutischen Bereichen systematisch analysiert. Der Datensatz umfasst unter anderem Wirkstoffe aus der Kardiologie, Neurologie, Onkologie, Stoffwechselmedizin, Pneumologie und Immunologie sowie ausgewählte Indikationsgebiete.
Warum ein Evidenz-Register notwendig ist
Geschlechtersensible Medizin gewinnt weltweit an Bedeutung, da biologische Unterschiede zwischen Patientinnen und Patienten die Wirksamkeit, Sicherheit und Dosierung von Arzneimitteln beeinflussen können. Dennoch fehlt es in Forschung, Versorgung und Regulierung an einer klar strukturierten, systematisch zugänglichen Darstellung dieser Informationen.
„Geschlechtsrelevante Hinweise liegen heute in unterschiedlichen Abschnitten verschiedener Dokumente vor, und ihre Formulierungen variieren je nach Wirkstoffklasse und Dokumenttyp. Eine einheitliche Struktur existiert bislang nicht. Genau hier setzen wir an“, erklärt Thao Nguyen, CEO und Gründerin von EQUAL CARE. „Unser Evidenz-Register schafft hier erstmals eine technisch konsistente Grundlage, um diese Informationen systematisch aufzufinden und vergleichbar zu machen.“
Während der Verarbeitung der 170 Wirkstoffe wurden unterschiedliche Dokumentformate, Terminologien und Sprachmuster identifiziert. Diese Vielfalt stellt ein wertvolles Trainingsumfeld dar und ermöglicht es, die Modelle für Klassifikation, Mustererkennung und semantische Strukturierung weiter zu verfeinern und auf einen größeren Datensatz anzuwenden.
Durch die Analyse können diese klinischen Studien erstmals in ein einheitliches, maschinenlesbares Format überführt werden. Warum dieses Thema jetzt besonders dringlich ist
Obwohl geschlechtsrelevante Unterschiede in Diagnostik, Therapie und Verträglichkeit wissenschaftlich beschrieben sind, sind diese Informationen im klinischen Alltag oft schwer auffindbar oder nicht systematisch aufbereitet. Leitlinien enthalten bislang nur begrenzt geschlechterspezifische Angaben und viele relevante Daten sind über zahlreiche Dokumente verteilt.

Weitere Wirkstoffe aus zusätzlichen Fachgebieten folgen zeitnah. Perspektivisch fließen neben Zulassungsstudien auch Post-Marketing-Daten und andere hochwertige Evidenzquellen ein. So entsteht schrittweise ein umfassendes, klinisch relevantes Fundament für geschlechtersensible Diagnostik und Therapie.
